On December 10, 2006 I stood on one of the many gleaming decks of Carnival Conquest. The weather was chilly with light rain, but my spirits were high. Soon the ship's horn would sound as we left the port of Galveston,Texas. Cue ship's horn please...BWAAAAA, BWAAAAA...excellent! Memories of the late fifties...another great ship...happy hugs from my grandfather as we set sail for Spain, his homeland. Today I am beginning a cruise to the Western Caribbean. After an efficient boarding process earlier in the day, I entered Carnival Conquest for the first time. My eyes opened wide at the sight of a richly-decorated concourse with a very high ceiling...musicians in formal attire were playing classical music. My first day with Carnival, and my Classy Index is up 80%! I could get used to this...in a heartbeat! Staircases and glass-enclosed elevators led you to the upper floors, where balconies allowed passengers to watch the concert in the concourse below. And now, people, for the final touch as we begin our Caribbean Cruise. You know what's coming... cue waiters with trays of tropical drinks! Is this the perfect getaway? Classical music is now competing with people singing "Hot Hot Hot!" or "Matilda." Everything goes as expected on Carnival Conquest. All our luggage is delivered promptly to our ocean view cabin, which is even more attractive and spacious than we had expected. The ship departs on schedule, sailing into the Gulf of Mexico.
